Digital Time
Line Grade Review Sheet
The test will be a mix of definitions (who did what), essay
questions, and multiple choice questions. There will be 25 questions total. You
need to know:
- What was going on in history that man suddenly had a
need to start developing new calculating devices such as the Pascaline.
- Be able to match up the following inventors with their
inventions:
- Pascal
- Napier
- Jacquard
- Babbage
- Hollerith
- Jack Kilby
- Doug Engelbart
- Alan Turing
- Bill Gates & Paul Allen
- Steve Jobs & Steve Wozniak
- Tom Watson
- Have a general idea of the order in which things were
invented (Example: The Analytic Engine was before the ENIAC)
- Have an idea of the limitations of some of the
calculating devices (Example: Slide rules could not add or subtract)
- Know the benefits and drawbacks to:
- Vacuum Tubes
- Abacus
- Slide rules
- ENIAC
Material will come from the 3 digital time lines (and the
handouts that went with them), the Early History Handout, and the class
lectures.
