Prince of Peace Catholic School has a low teacher/student ratio allowing students to receive extra help and guidance, in all subjects and activities. Believing in the value of nurturing the whole child, emphasis is placed on a student's academic potential, social development, and religious formation. Prince of Peace has a strong instructional program which respects the individual needs of all children. The school offers a rich child-centered curriculum including Reading/Language Arts, Math, Social Studies, Science, Computer Science, Physical Education and Music. Students at Prince of Peace thrive in a climate based on the principles of peace and cooperation. Building on the message of peace taught by Christ, students study the fundamentals of leadership and have many opportunities to practice, and demonstrate their emerging leadership skills. Prince of Peace Catholic School is supported by St. Margaret of Cortona, St. John Vianney and St. Anthony Parishes. Prince of Peace students are seen as ambassadors to the greater community. Students are given many opportunities to practice their leadership skills in the context of service to the school and larger community. Older students help younger ones at Mass, during lunch, and at recess. Junior high Student Council members read to students in the primary grades. In addition Student Council leads the younger students in school and community service initiatives. Students in grades 6-8 volunteer on a regular basis to help the cafeteria run smoothly at lunch time. Confirmation students participate in numerous and varied activities designed to expand their understanding and appreciation of being of service to others. As stated in the school’s Peace Pledge, students are committed to spreading peace at school, at home, and in the community.Involving ParentsThere are many ways for parents to contribute to the school community. Organizations like our Board of Education and Parent-Teacher Organization (PTO) provide opportunities to work collaboratively with teachers and administrators to further the quality of Prince of Peace Catholic School. In addition, the school welcomes parent volunteers for such activities such as Book Fair, Cafeteria, Fish Fry, and Library to name but a few. At Prince of Peace, parents and teachers work together in a collaborative manner to benefit each and every child. At Prince of Peace we believe that the home/school partnership is critical to each student’s continued success. The staff at Prince of Peace works very hard to stay in touch with parents. Teachers are available for personal conferencing and every effort is made to keep parents informed of student progress. Parents regularly receive classroom and school communications through the weekly take-home envelope. Parents can also monitor their child's daily progress by checking the required homework assignment book (Grades 3-8).
